Since 1954, Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) has been committed to safeguarding our community with a team of dedicated volunteers available around the clock. Our skilled members are trained to handle emergencies in both urban and backcountry settings.

Our Commitment
We firmly believe that no one should be charged for the lifesaving assistance we provide. Our mission is driven by the principle that every person in need of rescue deserves help, regardless of the situation, and without the burden of financial concerns.

Over the last couple of years, COSAR has been requested to respond to over 100 tasks per year.
This number is expected to dramatically increase over the next several years.
COSAR’s team of professional volunteers contribute over 20,000 hours per year to tasks, training, administration, and equipment maintenance. Every hour is unpaid and provides an annual savings of over $600,000 to the community.
COSAR is made up of a team of approximately 55 well trained professional volunteers. Members are trained in a range of disciplines including advanced first aid, technical rope rescue, and swift water rescue along with general search and rescue skills.
Central Okanagan Search and Rescue is responsible for serving a 5,000 km area that ranges from Peachland to Kalamalka Lake to Beaverdell to Elkhart Summit.
COSAR provides our community with life-saving search and rescue services.
